The Hautes Pyrénées is a department (number 65) of the Midi Pyrénées region. The Midi Pyrénées is the largest geographical region in France covering a surface of over 45,300km2 -larger than eight European Union member states including Belgium and larger than Switzerland. Getting to The Hautes Pyrénées
Access and transportation systems are top rate with the high speed train (TGV) passing via Toulouse, Tarbes, onwards to Belgium, UK and now the southern route to Spain.
The main airport for the region is based in Toulouse Blagnac, with smaller regional airports at Pau, and Lourdes Tarbes in the south, services by low cost ait carriers such as Ryan Air. Road networks are good and the area is crossed by the Autoroute A 61 from west coast to east coast and intersections north to Paris and beyond and south to Barcelona, Madrid (Spain).
